SONG BOOK

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” ~Col. 3:16
We sing from our own songbook which is an elder-overseen compilation of traditional and modern hymns, Psalms, and modern compositions.

The Madras Reformed Church's Approach to Worship Music:
Believing that the hymns and songs we sing need to accurately reflect our understanding of God’s Word, there will be scrutiny of lyrics before a song is sung in our worship service.  Lyrics will be vetted with the following matrix:
· Is the song God-centered?
· Do the lyrics align with our belief statement?
· Do the lyrics align with our theological distinctives?
· Are there any unbiblical lyrics in the song?

Believing that singing an author’s/artist’s words is an aspect of partnering with them, there will be vetting of each with the following matrix:
· Is/was there blatant evidence of unrepentant sin in the author or artist’s life?
· Does/did the author or artist attend a theologically sound church or denomination?

Finally, consideration will be given to how singable a hymn or song would be for the congregation.
