We sing from our own songbook which is an
elder-overseen compilation of traditional and modern hymns, Psalms, and modern compositions.
The Madras Reformed Church's Approach to Worship Music:Believing that the hymns and songs we sing need to accurately reflect our understanding of God’s Word, there will be scrutiny of lyrics before a song is sung in our worship service. Lyrics will be vetted with the following matrix:
· Is the song God-centered?
· Do the lyrics align with our
belief statement?
· Do the lyrics align with our theological distinctives?
· Are there any unbiblical lyrics in the song?
Believing that singing an author’s/artist’s words is an aspect of partnering with them, there will be vetting of each with the following matrix:
· Is/was there blatant evidence of unrepentant sin in the author or artist’s life?
· Does/did the author or artist attend a theologically sound church or denomination?
Finally, consideration will be given to how singable a hymn or song would be for the congregation.
